How To Choose Titanium Plates?

selecting a titanium plate

According to their impact on the phase transition temperature, alloying elements can be split into three groups:

1.Stabilizing elements, such aluminum, carbon, oxygen, and nitrogen, work to maintain the phase and raise the phase transition temperature. The main alloy component of titanium alloy is aluminum, which has obvious impacts on the alloy's normal temperature and high temperature strength, as well as on its specific gravity and elastic modulus.

2. The -stabilizing element, which can be classified into two types: isomorphic and eutectoid, is the substance that stabilizes the phase and lowers the phase transition temperature. Molybdenum, niobium, and vanadium are products made from titanium alloys; the latter also contains chromium, manganese, copper, iron, and silicon.

3. Neutral elements like Zr, Sn, and others have little impact on the phase transition temperature.

In titanium alloys, oxygen, nitrogen, carbon, and hydrogen are the primary impurities. Greater solubility of oxygen and nitrogen in the phase significantly strengthens the titanium alloy while reducing ductility. The oxygen and nitrogen concentration of titanium should typically be less than 0.15– 0.2% and 0.04– 0.5%, respectively. Because hydrogen is only very weakly soluble in the phase, too much hydrogen dissolved in the titanium alloy will result in the production of hydrides, which will weaken the alloy.

The hydrogen concentration in titanium alloys is typically kept under 0.015%. Titanium's hydrogen dissolution is reversible and can be stopped with vacuum annealing.
